Properly Squeaky Wheels

Of course, the flip-side of yesterday's post is having teachers and staff that know when it is time to come to the principal/boss.

This is also a two-way relationship - the principal needs to know when it is right to share information with others. There are times for discretion's sake that information cannot be shared; but I follow the principle of it is better to share information than not to share it - if it impacts the person involved.

I would say the following items must be brought up the chain of command and a good subordinate will do so in an appropriate way: long-term issues that are not resolved and need an intermediary; moral/culture issues; anything with legal or ethical ramifications; and ideas that would improve the school as a whole.

By ensuring that communication is proper and properly done, the whole system can operate better.

This is one of the expectations that should be set when onboarding - how to and when to bother the principal.

Probably best to share some things by email and others in person.
