Personality and Principalship

There are many ways to classify a personality (Meyers-Briggs, Temperments, or even the basic Introvert v Extrovert duality). Generally, I fall in the INTP or Sanguine-Choleric families.

This makes my position as an administrator, front-man, and marketer for the school somewhat interesting. In reflecting upon today, some things definitely stand out.

At times, I get too caught up the plan or goal and ignore the people or compassion-side of the job. I do tend to be less patient with adults than children, which can be a double-edged sword.

The biggest issue is the "people" demands of the position. It can be taxing when the constant news and bustle of people echoes throughout the day. Coupled with the busy home of two boys, I know that it affects my ability to be an effective partner for my wife and, at times, an effective leader.

As a leader, generally, I just recognize that I need to be gregarious and present for kids and adults throughout the day while sacrificing time at home in that role (which has made this blogging easier than expected). A part of self-care is recognizing what makes us more effective or less effective. This is a definite area of growth.

What I wish I could do.
