Emotional Energy

I'm not exactly sure why but it takes a great deal of emotional energy - often - to come up with a blog post.

In the pre-COVID world, this space served as a public (of sorts) journal and reflection space.

Perhaps it is the constant fact of being with ourselves, the whirlwind of stress and elision of work into personal and personal into work, but the emotional energy to think, plan, write, and (semi) edit a blog post, even one as short as this one, hasn't been there.

A large part of that has been what feels like a greater whipping around of plans w/r/t the opening of schools, care for my children, care for my students, care for my staff, and the increased demands on principals in our Catholic school system for working with families, creating community, reporting to the Archdiocese, and a general sense of "being there" for other leaders.

I honestly can say I don't think I've had this much communication as the principal with other principals or the administrative structure of the central office before. I'm not sure if that speaks to a weakness in our system or a strength.

In the end, it speaks to strong sense of tension the feudal structure of our management system has between tight-loose management and the concept of subsidiarity. Perhaps the lords do better with that autonomy except for rare crisis situations when called upon by their king.

Regardless, these increasing demands and the general lack of true socialization or "unstressed" time have created a hole through which my emotional energy consistently drains. Hence the lack of posting or even the lack of time to organize and deal with those same thoughts.
